What is Sapphire Abrasion?

Our epidermis is the outermost layer of our skin. It can suffer immensely after a long dry winter leaving the skin dehydrated which in turn can leave the epidermis with the appearance of superficial fine lines & wrinkles. One very effective way to rid of those nasty lines amongst treating other conditions is Sapphire Abrasion. This is the newest method of exfoliating the skin with microdermabrasion. Sapphire granules cover one side of its unique tip, while the other side is designed to massage and drain lymph. It also stimulates fibroblastic activity, which aids in the tissue repair process. Fibroblasts are present in connective tissue and are capable of forming collagen fibers. The sapphire abrasion is crystal and suction free and uses ultrasonic vibrations to painlessly ablate the outermost layers of the skin. This treatment is non-invasive and is ideal for anyone who has had  reaction to traditional vacuum like microdermabrasion or sensitive skin. The best way to finish this treatment is with some cold light therapy or out Lumifacial!

This treatment is beneficial for people with very lax skin because the old form of microdermabrasion (crystal & diamond) tends to pull the skin up into the hand piece due to the suction created by the vacuum. Patients with lax skin will be at greater risk for blood bruising or streaking. That is why sapphire abrasion microdermabrasion would be the best treatment for very lax skin.

The Benefits of Regular Microdermabrasion Treatments
Regular (weekly to bi-weekly) microdermabrasion treatments will prevent the thickening of the Stratum corneum which helps eliminate congestion. Treatments performed will correct surface irregularities and encourage a more radiant glowing complexion. Microdermabrasion performs two functions – it corrects and stimulates.

Correction – the abrasive action gently erodes the surface layers of the skin, allowing smoother fresher skin to emerge and thus correcting surface irregularities.

Stimulation – the vacuum or ultrasonic action triggers the “wound response” or increased blood circulation in the area treated. This increases the blood supply, providing nutrients necessary for skin regeneration repair and increasing cellular turnover.

Here are a few of the many skin conditions that benefit from regular microdermabrasion treatments:

Dull Skin
Acne Scars
Enlarged Pores
Brown, Age & Hyperpigmentation Spots
Blemished Skin
Sun Damaged Skin
Blackheads & Whiteheads

Microdermabrasion is ideal for People:
Of all skin colours
Who want quick results and cannot afford the “downtime” associated with healing from cosmetic surgery
With sensitive skin that reacts to make-up or chemicals
With oily, acne-prone skin that is not improved by acne remedies; and that desire beautiful skin
